This accessory dwelling unit (ADU) in Denton, Texas, transforms an underused rear porch into a modern, energy-efficient living space.

Structure & Envelope
We framed the addition with 2x lumber and integrated a low-slope shed roof to keep the profile slim and modern.
ZIP System sheathing and tape provide a continuous air and weather barrier. Inside, closed-cell spray foam lines the walls and ceiling, dramatically boosting R-value and reducing air leakage—critical for North Texas heat and humidity.
New high-performance windows are arranged in a consistent rhythm along the patio side to maximize daylight and views.
Exterior Finishes
The exterior blends brick returns where the new volume meets the original house with vertical wood siding along the façade.
The covered patio is rebuilt with beefier posts and extended eaves for shade.
The simple material palette—brick, wood, and painted trim—keeps maintenance low and the look timeless.

The ADU is planned as a compact, self-contained studio: an open living/sleeping area, a kitchenette wall, a full bath, and generous storage.
